Polar Inc. has finally dropped his debut album, Tragicomedy. The Cape Town producer, real name Adam Spence, has been putting out music for more than ten years and has over 120 million streams, but this is his first full album. It has ten tracks and goes back and forth between everything he’s known for, or as he puts it, “happiness and melancholy, cinematic and clubby, emotion and rhythm.”
A handful of singles came out ahead of the album, including “Sympathy” with Anna-Sophia Henry, “Cerulean,” “For You” featuring Nathan Ball and “Slopes” with Hannah Ray. Polar Inc. first started “Slopes” while on tour in San Francisco, and named it after the hills he’d been walking around that day, before finishing it later in the studio. The rest of the album includes “Holding Me Up” with sadHAPPY, “Le Concorde,” “Apricity,” “Catching Fire” featuring ALLKNIGHT, “Agulhas” and opener “Prima.” “Prima” started as a chord progression he kept coming back to while making the album, and the first version was eight minutes long before he cut it down.
